How RFID Key Works


Radio-Frequency Identification system or RFID is used in electronic key management system. RFID tags are attached to the keys and a transponder is fixed on the access points. Basically, there are three parts of a RFID key system that makes it work efficiently. 

Antenna
The scanning antenna communicates with the transponder. It emits radio-frequency signals for the purpose and also provides sufficient energy to the tag attached with the keys. If you are using the system after a long time, then the signals emitted by the antenna, proves to be the energy source of the passive tags attached with the keys.

Interpreter
The interpreter unit consists of two different modules. It has a transceiver to receive the signals and forward it for further processing. The second module of the interpreter is a decoder. It processes the signal received by the transceiver and analyze it.

Tag
The RFID tags that are to be attached with the keys make the third component of this keys management system. These tags should be brought near the antenna for accessing the system. Moreover, these tags do not require any sort of power source to work and thus can be used for years without fail. However, there are certain types of tags that do have their own power source and should be replenished once it gets exhausted.
The aforementioned three components complete the RFID key management system and also make it work effectively. This system is reliable and resistant to forceful breach and thus makes good alternative to old fashioned keys cabinets. However, nowadays you can also get advanced version of keys cabinets that are equipped with RFID system.
